The Hidden Disparities Map
The map is temporarily being hosted by DataLab at the following link: https://datalab-dev.github.io/2024_middleton_climate_justice/
The CA Jobs First project, awarded from the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment, is close to finalizing the "Hidden Disparities" map with DataLab. In the coming weeks the map will be hosted here at the Institute of the Environment.
The map allows visualization and analysis of data on fire risk, socioeconomic variables and other factors to help us better understand and support sustainable economic and community development in the region. We expect that it will be available on the ECJ section of the IE website in April 2025.
Project Overview:
California’s North State Region (Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties) faces unique challenges due to its rural character, isolated and rugged terrain, and distinctive economic profile. The purpose of this map is to provide a publicly-available tool to highlight some issues critical to understanding disparities in the North State Region that may be overlooked in other environmentally focused maps. The map and associated statistics allow for spatial analysis to uncover relationships among data that may not be otherwise evident just by looking at maps and other data.
