UC Davis-led Research has the Potential to Help Manage our Climate Future

Quick Summary

  • Institute of the Environment Director Isabel P. Montañez discusses her climate research, as well as the impact carbon sequestration could have on helping mitigate the climate crisis.

There are reasons to be hopeful in the face of an imposing climate future. Some of these reasons can be found in the potential to amplify Earth's natural processes to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

UC Davis Institute of the Environment Director Isabel P. Montañez discussed some of her climate research, as well as the powerful impact enhanced mineral weathering could have on helping mitigate the climate crisis and create a more promising future during a Nov. 1 "Imagine If..." event on the UC Davis campus.

“I can imagine a future where we learn to manage our planetary climate and where climate change is no longer an existential threat,” Montañez said at the event, which celebrated UC Davis  surpassing $1 billion in annual research funding.

The research funding goal has been achieved by fewer than 20 public universities across the nation, and is the result of UC Davis' exceptional research community. The event explored bold visions for future research included some of the university's most visionary researchers and innovators sharing some of their most audacious ideas.
